Aspiring astronaut launches Cambridge FBO
Aspiring astronaut, Dr Jaclyn Bell joined Lady Marshall to officially open Cambridge City Airport’s stylish new Jet Centre FBO.
Dr Bell and Lady Marshall, wife of late Sir Michael Marshall, unveiled a plaque commemorating the occasion, before touring the state-of-the-art facility.
They began with a tour of the scanner at the entrance to the facility, one of the few UK regional FBO’s giving passengers an early personal and baggage X-ray before departure.
Dr Bell said:
“It is a tremendous honour to open this new FBO, and especially to meet Lady Marshall, whose late husband was such an inspiration to those aspiring to a career in aviation or aerospace.“I am really impressed by the quality of the facilities here at the Jet Centre, not only does it look fantastic but everything has been designed to make life as easy as possible for passengers.”
The new Cambridge Jet Centre began welcoming executive business customers in November and has undergone major refurbishment over recent months.
Investment has provided enhanced facilities for air crew and passengers with early scanning that provides a seamless transition from the welcome desk through the FBO to the executive VIP lounge, which includes modern comfort facilities, complimentary refreshments and new private business centre.
There is also a stylish conference centre for up to 16 delegates, with state-of-the-art AV equipment, and a stunning uninterrupted view across the airfield and Cambridgeshire countryside.
Dr Bell, a leading academic, aviator and astronaut-hopeful, appeared in the BBC’s “Astronauts: Do You Have What It Takes?” TV show in 2017 and won the coveted Sir Michael Marshall Award for Diversity sponsored by Cambridge City Airport in the Air Charter Association Excellence Awards 2019.
